(1) The lodge works with the locals such that they don't become dependent on tourism for income because of its uncertainty: for example, apparently there was a two year period during which the Tefé airport was closed, putting a serious damper on business. It is possible to arrive by boat, but given that the fast boat from Manaus to Tefé takes 12 hours...you see where I'm going with this.
(2) Those two valves in the shower controlling hot and cold water respectively may be a lie, or a dream. I knew not this "hot water" of which Adam speaks. Also, he took a lot of showers, so maybe he stole it all, even though legally, according to the Commonwealth, half of it should have been mine.
